Default iPhone midi controller to control DJ Software

I'm attempting to create an application for my iPhone to enable the phone to act as a hardware interface to control software on my computer through midi mapping. For example to assign cue buttons in software such as Ableton/Traktor onto a GUI interface controlled on the Phone.

I am aware that previous versions of this have been created, but I'm trying to learn how to create these myself. I have began to learn making basic apps for the iPhone but not really sure where to begin with the above.

Having created a GUI of buttons I'm struggling to get these to send midi messages to the software. I am guessing the Core Midi frameworks will be essential to this task but was hoping someone with experience of this could help me get started perhaps with example code or a description of how to implement the necessary classes.

    Cheers

    Mike

Why re-invent the wheel? TouchOSC does what you want in spades...

But if this is purely a learning project, IOS developer forums would likely be the best place for that question...

If you wanted to build a hardware controller, we have all the answers

That said, there could be IOS developers around these parts as well..
