Default hands up if you DON'T rely on blogs/charts/et al to buy music

how many other ppl on here just dig through new releases to find the gems and rely on their own ears?

instead of buying that weeks 'must haves' according to charts and blogs...

i know there are various threads on the 'how do you find music' tip, but not from this angle, they're all asking for blogs to check out...

i use them as a guide some times. but maybe once every couple of weeks.

most of the stuff i get is by unknown people, or just small scale stuff and free eps from new labels.

at least thats how ive been going for the past couple of months

I'm a huge fan of RA and their reviews, they are usually spot on for what I'm into. With that being said,I still do copious amounts of digging on my own, just use RA as way to see if anything as slipped through the cracks.

i second that, theory28. blogs are a good indicator for new artists/lables and what to look for next

never the less, the diging is too much fun to leave it to other people alone

    raises hand.

there was a couple years there in 08-09 that i acquired almost all of my music from blogs.

it's not worth it to rely on them. not only is it way more time consuming because it's 99% garbage to sift through, but even if the tracks are new and hyped up - you're basically limiting yourself to playing tunes out of someone else's record bag versus an entire store's selection.

i'm not against getting the odd track here and there from a blog, but i pretty much only use them now if i'm redirected by a link that's posted from an artist page on facebook or whatever.

Since I don't personally know any of the artists I've got in my library, I have to rely on blogs and suggestions to even know that EDM exists. Of course, I use my ears to decide if I like the tracks I'm presented, and still spend hours digging for that one gem.

Dig dig dig!! It's the one thing you learn from going into a record shop and digging through loads of vinyl!! Blogs didn't exist when I started looking for tunes!!!

mixmag buzz chart...? But yeah agree with this totally.

I've managed to separate myself from the hype to the point these days I don't know if a track I've picked up is big or not...
