I tried this the other day. Granted it was a different sub (a mordaunt short alumni 9), but that too had speaker outputs, so I was curious and tried it out.

It doesnt work.

You either need to split the signal from the soundcard, setup your soundcard so 2 sets of outputs put out the same audio or buy an amp that supports sub out and speaker out.

I currently use the amp solution. It handles all the crossover from the tops to the sub too so one less thing for me to have to tweak.

Also bear in mind that your sub should only need mono sound to work (one half of an RCA pair). Sub bass isnt stereo so you could get away with only splitting one output from your soundcard.
