    Default Geek/Nerd pride day!

    [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geek_Pride_Day"]Geek Pride Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Friki.jpg" class="image" title="Geek Pride Day"><img alt="Geek Pride Day" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ac/Friki.jpg/225px-Friki.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/a/ac/Friki.jpg/225px-Friki.jpg[/ame]

Geek Pride Day is an initiative to promote geek culture, celebrated on May 25th. The date was chosen as to commemorate the release of the first Star Wars film, A New Hope on May 25, 1977, but shares the same day as three other similar fan 'holidays' - Towel Day, for fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy by Douglas Adams, Star Wars Day, and the Glorious May 25 for fans of Terry Pratchett's Discworld.

The initiative originated in Spain in 2006 as "Orgullo Friki" and spread around the world via the internet.

Basic rights and responsibilities of geeks

A manifesto was created to celebrate the first Geek Pride Day which included the following list of basic rights and responsibilities of geeks.

    Rights:

The right to be even geekier.
The right to not leave your house.
The right to have no significant other and to be a virgin.
The right to not like football or any other sport.
The right to associate with other nerds.
The right to have few friends (or none at all).
The right to have as many geeky friends as you want.
The right to be out of style.
The right to show off your geekiness.
The right to take over the world.

    Responsibilities:

Be a geek, no matter what.
Try to be nerdier than anyone else.
If there is a discussion about something geeky, you must give your opinion.
Save and protect all geeky material.
Do everything you can to show off geeky stuff as a "museum of geekiness."
Don't be a generalized geek. You must specialize in something.
Attend every nerdy movie on opening night and buy every geeky book before anyone else.
Wait in line on every opening night. If you can go in costume or at least with a related T-shirt, all the better.
Don’t waste your time on anything not related to geekdom.
Try to take over the world!
