Default Recommend a good mastering service?

I have heard some tight productions from some of the people on this forum. Can any of y'all recommend a good online mastering service? Hard to find reviews online and I see services ranging from $26/song on up.

Can you recommend somewhere that masters by the song? Price is a consideration, but obviously I'll pay more for something better.

Also, any general advice from producers on things to ask for from online mastering services?

    Thanks!

Also, consider whether the mastering places specialises in your genre AND actually has commercial releases. Lots of SAE grads with cracked waves plugins calling themselves "Mastering Engineers" now.

I'm surprised no producers on here jumped at the opportunity. If my computer wasn't playing up I would of gladly had a go to pass some time.

    producer ≠ mastering engineer

But most would have a fair bit of knowledge for the latter , sound engineers would usually have a fairly good idea too

Let me summarise every mastering tutorial on YouTube.

    1. Output track normalised to 0db
    2. Get compressor, crank ratio up to 3-5:1, attack to fast, release to slow
    3. Get limiter, set gain boost to +3db, set output to -0.3db
    4. Track sounds louder? Good!
    5. Tell everyone you're an awesome mastering engineer

I'm going to start a new trend in EDM - dynamic range.

Yes, exactly. I have attempted to master my own tracks using various tutorials and such. Even bought a Bob Katz book and tried to figure stuff out. It only made me appreciate what a skill mastering is. Plus, it helps to have the right room and really nice reference monitors, maybe some expensive outboard gear.

For now, I just need someone who knows what they're doing. (i.e. not me)

Photojojo, thanks for reminding me about that one. Just curious if you have tried that dude's services? Seems legit.
