    Default DJ Name

Ok I have been kicking around some DJ/Stage names and was wondering on the etiquette for picking one. I did a google search for a bunch of the names and most seem to already belong to fairly established DJs. I crossed those out as just out of respect if nothing else. Then a few more I found only 1 or 2 hits for them under the TheDJList. They were "ranked" around 100,000. I don't take the ranking on that site seriously but I also don't want to piss anyone off.

I haven't been able to locate info on a website, twitter, Facebook, myspace or any other info other than a random entry in this list. What would you do? Just start using it? I really just want to use it for production. Thoughts?

...if they are in the same situation as you and suddenly get more famous you both will have PR issues. It should not be so hard to get a unique name, not even in this new world order where every producer has 10+ monikers.

Well it took me a damn long time to figure out my name, but eventually instead of trying to think so hard about what I wanted my name to be I eventually put it on the back burner and just let it come to me. So I say have a few names that really spark your interest, maybe make a list and start putting names together, take parts of names, add them to other names and start from there.

Here's how mine started...for some reason in high school i wanted my middle name to be Stephonikus (Don't ask me why but really sparked my interest) and as the days went on I felt like it was about time to have a dj name, and why not I started to have a few ideas of how to make my dj name out of stephonikus. One thing led to another and I made my name Stephon Ikos, and to make it a little more interesting I put a dash over the o to really make my name stand out. So, Stephon Ikōs, it is!

Being creative with is name is the very last thing on my list

Learning how to beatmatch by ear comes first.

I'm not asking for advice on what name to pick or how to go about picking one. I'm asking for this specific situation. If you wanted to use a name for an event or a production but found out that someone somewhere was using at least to some extent, would you still use it.

Wouldn't you want to be able to show that no doubt it was you that made it or was there djiing?!
