Sorry I know this is beaten to death. But Im trying to start out and know absolutely nothing about this. I'd like to basically just make my own music, nothing to fancy. Maybe a budget of $600? If thats possible. I'd be using the new macbook air as my laptop. Any help would be super welcome!! Thanks guys.

P.s- Im not trying to look for hand outs, basically just pointed in the right direction for what should be spent on right the first time, and not have to worry later.

    you want to make music?

I'm no expert in the area but I would point you towards the Novation Launchpad for ableton live

Edit: actually that's more for performing live

If you just want to MAKE music I would look into the new novation impulse keyboards, those look tight

Stuff the controllers. If you want to make music the most important purchases are the DAW and the monitors. Get those first!

Get a pair of good monitors and a NI Maschine (Mikro will adapt to your budget) and there you go, with that you have a very powerful making music machine, and you'll be able to make all kind of music anywhere.

If you want to keep the budget low, get a launchpad (200$) and an LPD8 (50$) and a monitor or 2. You can always add on more controllers, keyboard, knobs etc. later. Ableton has a bit of a learning curve, but o'so fun to play with.
