i know many digital djs who use turntables that bring vinyl as a backup. computers tend to fuck up much more than turntables... the worst that can happen witha turntable is the needle gets fucked during a gig, in which case you have extra cartridges on you for such a mishap. it's not as easy fixing a computer mid-gig.

i doubt vinyls going anywhere anytime soon.

If you want assurance, format 2 laptops, reinstall and test everything before any gig

I still would instantly buy a new turntable if it also had USB connection and a small display so i could also use it standalone to play audiotracks from USB devices, controling them using the platter, send out 14 bits midi CC over the same USB connection to use as a midi controller, and maybe even had a CD-slot to play CD's with. If technics would make something like that, with the same form-factor as the classic SL1200 so clubs could simply swap their SL1200's for this new beast, i would be in heaven best of all worlds so to say

I agree..a 1200 with a display and a Ipod or HD port would be dope, but it is then not much different than a cd turntable they already have out.
