It is one expedit bookshelf. The top is 176 cm x 65 cm. I centered it over the expedit, which made it overhang approximately 13 cm all the way around.

I got the countertop from Ikea as well and applied a few coats of tung oil.

(been looking to build this basicly and have been measuring things arounf the room ) but yeah, im 6 ft and im pretty comfey at this height? but... nearly always the table is made higher =/ stupid question im sure!

    Default Smaller IKEA DJ desk

    hey what's up.

I saw the article for the IKEA DJ Booth a few months back and I thought to myself, hey I probably should do that too. So I went back to my hometown (Charlotte, NC) to buy some parts.

I didn't want something that would take up as much space as the 2x4 expedit but I still wanted a crap load of room for stuff on the top. So I thought maybe I should take a 2x2 and then add the Vika Amon on the top with some Capita legs connecting the two. Anyway, this is how it looks

I ran into a problem though. I was going to add a Lack shelf to the back for my lappy but the little caps that came with the legs were not working at all. I tried to modify them so that they would hold it in place, but the weight of the shelf made the bottom of the leg tilt off.

In the process of finding a welder to weld the plate to the bottom of the leg so that it won't wobble tilt. Other than that no probs (pretty sturdy for my tastes)! I pretty sure I could get some techs on the table if I wanted to

after a year of having decks balanced across different desks and shoe boxes i finally decided to get this thing built with the help of my bro (a carpenter) and a mate (a painter). Finished it yesterday:

perfect height for me, no more crouching over. loads of space on top and underneath, all holed as well to pass cabled through. Poles on each corner for mounting speaker.

    we've got 2 X CDJ 900;s, a DJM 900 Nexus, 2 X Kontrol X1's and a MBP

Yeah I said that too, but with the angular legs I wouldn't have had a smooth surface on the top of the table, which I wanted badly.

I'm going to call some shops around town next week to see if I can get a quote to weld the two pieces together. I'll post a result as soon as it is completed.

Hey that's pretty nice. One question though, how did you get that curved top on the table? Was it already like that?

    Thanks.

My bro's a carpenter so he was able to cut the curve into the very top piece of MDF and then bend some hardboard around that curve while fixing to it.

Wanted to share the desk I made with a lot of help from this thread.
I wanted a DJ desk I could also sit down and check emails at, instead of having a regular desk, and a DJ table, and moving my laptop back and forth. Space was an issue.
As far as Ikea parts, I used the ikea expedit, 4x 8" godmorgon legs for the monitors, and capita legs for the removable second tier shelf. Also used Dioder light strips, and adjustable Ikea table legs to keep the front stable.
The top desk part is stained wood. I gig a lot, so I wanted to keep my equipment in the cases. The top tier shelf is removable (it just sits on the desk with Capita legs), so is the front panel on the desk (it slides up), so that the turntables slide right out the front.
The keyboard tray is adjustable, and hides away when you're standing up and mixing. That required some extra work to fit, because the top of the ikea shelf gets in the way of the back of the keyboard drawer.
Their is also a kensington lock mount screwed to the underside back of the desk, so I can keep my drives locked up (bad neighborhood).
The monitor is on an arm, so I can push it back and tilt it up when mixing, or tilt it down and pull it forward when sitting at the computer.

Please ask me anything you want!!

    Some of the parts used:

    Keyboard Tray:
Amazon.com: Deluxe Keyboard Arm and Tray 28"x10" - Black: Home & Kitchen

    Monitor Arm:
Amazon.com: Visidec Focus Articulated Monitor Arm to Support Displays Up to 24 Inch: Electronics

    Kensington Desk Lock:
Amazon.com: Kensington Desk Mount Cable Anchor (K64613WW): Electronics

I used pipe clamps from home depot to manage the wires going down the monitor poles.

Default Stand up or Sit down desk

Wanted to share the desk I made with a lot of help from this thread, and a carpenter in the family.
I wanted a DJ desk I could also sit down and check emails at, instead of having a regular desk, and a separate DJ table, and moving my laptop back and forth. Space was also an issue.
As far as Ikea parts, I used the ikea expedit, 4x 8" godmorgon legs for the monitors, and capita legs for the removable second tier shelf. Also used Dioder light strips, and adjustable (adjustable is key) Ikea table legs to keep the front stable.
The top desk part is stained wood. I gig a lot, so I wanted to keep my equipment in the cases. The top tier shelf (below the monitor) is removable (it just sits on the desk with Capita legs), so is the front panel on the desk (it slides up), so that the turntables slide right out the front.
The keyboard tray is adjustable, and hides away when you're standing up and mixing. That was a pain to mount, because it hits the top of the expedit shelf.
Their is also a kensington lock mount screwed to the underside back of the desk, so I can keep my drives locked up (bad neighborhood).
The monitor is on an arm, so I can push it back and tilt it up when mixing, or tilt it down and pull it forward when sitting at the computer.
