Side note, why not compress them losslessly?

    Numerous reasons.

    1. I can't stand compression.

    2. I love high dynamic music material.

    3. I got in this business when vinyl were the standard.

    4. My sound system is large enough to emit the sound differences using lossless files compared to non-lossless files.

    Cheers!

Dude! There is actually ZERO difference between LOSSLESS compressed formats such as flac and uncompressed wavs. When you decode a flac back to a wav you get the original wav back without a single 1 or 0 in the wrong place :P

This is unlike lossy formats where your media player program or traktor or whatever decodes the mp3 or whatever back into a wav so it can be played you get the original wav + artefacts from the LOSSY compression.

You can actually test this! Grab flac (if you want a UI I'd use "Trader's little helper" rather than "flac frontend", it's a much better program) and compress and uncompress it a bunch of times (each time you encode in a LOSSY manner it gets worse) and then compare the file to the original copy which hasn't gone through the encoding/decoding process. They are 100% identical (assuming there were no errors in the encoding process, if so just do it again).

You could try lining the flac up alongside the wav in an audio editor and inverting the phase, they should cancel each other out perfectly while with an mp3 it will not.
I think... I may be misunderstanding how inverting the phase works :P

Hope that helps! Should save you a lot of disc space.

    Yes.

But! The wav format is the standard in the professional audio world for those who use Windows Computers stemming from 1992 to date. This means any DAW you use in Windows will offer "Wav" as the default recording medium.

There is no reason to save hard drive space when I have three 1 terabyte hard drives at my disposal.

Possibly, I misinterpret what you meant by lossy for I thought you were referring to MP3 files. If you had asked, why I chose Wav over Flac, my response would resemble what is stated above.

    Cheers!

I like this. Could you elaborate a bit more on this? I find surprising that many local DJ's dont care about sound quality or sound engineers suck but most suffice with 320kbps. The sound systems I have experienced in terms of BIG like concert venues suck since they have BOMBING bass and clubs tend to have old/badly placed speakers... The other ones I have experienced in quality terms are monitor speakers and church/other events/whatever that make me think "I would love to hear EDM on this equipment".

That said maybe im kinda lost on the scale of this but if I have 3TB of uncompressed music I better have something to make them shine right?
    Erase. Stop. Start.
