I know the feeling. I'm debating on adding a set of staton CMP.800's (just to get that analogue feel). Im going to give up smoking cigs and eating out to save the money so I can have them by the end of the year with out dipping into my account and it would possibly do me a bit good for my health too, LOL.
hmm... would buying the db4 help you save money once you get it? stay in mix more (save money)? gig out (make money)? Who knows, give it some time and maybe next year you'll get a nice raise and the price will drop!?

Don't get it, save your money.
A couple months after you get it, will still be considered "cutting edge" as NAMM rolls around. All the new hype will start firing up shortly about the "next thing" you may want to get that.
Wait til after Christmas, it's just about only 2 months away, and then you can listen to all the pre-NAMM hype about the new Pioneer mixer that performs baptisms and serves you toast with butter and jam or whatever. After listening to all that hype you can then decide to buy it. If you do decide to buy it you will probably miss out on any bugs that may pop up in the first generation DB4's. Also, if you start putting money away now you'll have saved up enough money to survive the impending Euro crash and subsequent zombie apocalypse so buying a DB4 won't make you worry about your finances too much.

Over the next couple of years I think the new Thunderbolt interface will slowly start to appear on sound cards and digital mixers.
If you've already got an S4 save your money and invest in some new super low latency goodness when that happens.
Did that help?
