House Music is like Ice Cream...their are many flavors of house just like ice cream. You just have to find what flavor you like and go with it. My fav is Classic House ie: Nightcrawlers, Bob Sinclair, Aly Us and so on.

Exactly my point. Not a lot. I'd like to think that tech-house is a little bit more melody driven than mnml and also carries a few of the antecedents of disco as opposed to the metallic microloops of techno. Basically I keep on trying to throw my housemates copy of Erotic Discourse by Bobby Peru out of the window whilst trying to keep hold of the likes of Meine by Daso.
But at the end of the day, it's all semantics, no? But fun semantics!
To use a boxing analogy, you can throw a jab, a roundhouse, a hook, or an uppercut, all to devestating effect. But a good boxer will know what punch he has thrown.
Or maybe the wine has just kicked in!

Ok - it seems that nobody dares to take the plunge and answer the qustion. Since I have extremely much love for these genres, I will give it a go.
First of - yes minimal is a techno sub-genre, hence the name Minimal Techno. Thats why minimal is based on the same foundation as techno - the heavy 4/4 kick and a solid bass. But that dosent really answer your question, whats the diffence?
The difference lies in the way the melody is presented and the tools and sounds used for this. While Techno uses bigger and more muddy sound, minimal uses small and characterestic sounds. The "Techno sounds" are more simular to the biiiig and loooong sounds used in trance (not saying that techno and trance sounds are the same, at all!). The minimal sounds are small and often reffered to as Blip Blop sounds.
To give you an example, have a listen to these two tracks:
Techno: Extrawelt - Titelheld (original version)
Minimal: Alex Young - Minimal It (original version)
(Both can be found on Beatport)
Pay attension to the difference in "amount" of sound and size of the "sound picture".
I hope this explanation helps you to understand the difference.
PS: Add IMO's where apropriate

Yeah, massive respect to Ishkurs guide. No doubt. BUT, you may not take it to serious. It is VERY outdated and has an unrealsitc focus on the amarican part of the electronic music scene (no hate intendet). Also, the genres are presented with a very subjective point of view

This.
That site is gold. I like some of his comments.
To me you can roughly desribe something into a genre to try and explain it to people and to make it easier to find stuff yourself. IMO its when you start getting fucking specific like: indie-funk-ghetto-tech-polka-house that things start getting retarded.
Trying to label every little subtle difference in style is just meh.
Thats why I like Dubstep theres a whole push especially by the founding members of the style that there are no Dubstep 'sub-genres' its all dubstep. Be it 2-step garage inspired, DnB inspired, Dub, Grime, Techno, Electro, House, Metal, Trance, Funk, Polka whatever its all still just dubstep.
