    Default Wtf!!

Ok so this is a bit of a rant but i had to get it out..

On thursday night i was asked to give a Dj an hour of my set as the owner wanted to see what he was like for a night in one of his other bars. No problem at all with doing this, it means i can have a few beers and chill out.
Anyway the fella turns up & cocky as you like, I said hi to him, and introduced myself and he didnt even tell me his name. I carried on for two more tracks and asked him if he was ready to go on, his response: "ready when you are", brilliant, so i move my things out of the way he plugs in his laptop and boom! somehow theres a surge and blows my power supply and cuts out my soundcard?? luckily i always have a 3.5mm - phono plugged in as backup, so sound was out for less than a second, then no sound from his cable, i look over and he's running a trial of vdj through his internal soundcard! once we eventually got him playing the sound was absolutely awful, no bass whatsoever, the system sounded like really loud laptop speakers! his cpu was completely maxed and the whole screen froze for about 5 seconds everytime he typed a letter and to top it off on his trial he was actually sitting down the whole time! after twenty minutes the manager asked me to go and take over as we were losing customers very very quickly.

Please dont think by this im trying to say that im a superstar, worldclass, millionare dj because im far from it, but come on youre either ready to play in front of people or youre not, he has invested absolutely nothing into this and thinks he can make a living out of it! christ i do one of my nights for free because i love doing it!

anyway rant over, i feel better now

You have every right to rant. People like this piss me off and i have had to deal with quite a few in my time as a club promoter and/or DJ at nights.

Make sure the manager knows how unprofessional the guy is and maybe ask the manager to get any prospective DJ to email you their spec so you know what to expect and when to say "No you aint playing here with that shit".

    Feel ya pain man.

dude i felt like hitting him, honestly, ive spent a lot of money on my gear and search for music like its a third job! for this guy to come and short it out, the manager was well aware of how unprofessional he was, he actually told me that it was an embarassment and to go over and get him off, so id did and just absolutely smashed it the really funny thing was, he hung on for an hour after and then asked me when he was going back on, i just kinda looked at him, turned around and mixed in the next track, i wasnt a happy bunny.

I feel you. Happened to me many times. Some wannabe "DJs" come to me and play because they know the owner. But in the end, the owner themselves ask his "DJ" friends to step out of the booth. ;D

saying it like that mate, makes you sound like a bit of a knob... I think the message is ease up on the arrogance, you can still dj without it, and you will probably learn a hell of a lot more and faster, if you don't have the opinion that you know everything...

Well said..... just shut up, do your thing, dont act like a dooche.

I know a guy on my local scene, who has no skill, cant mix, acts like a complete prick and thinks that having all Pioneer gear makes him a better DJ. However, he know absolutely everybody on the scene, and brings friends along to gigs... some promoters only hire him because of his dips%&t crowd.... </rant>

Just be nice and respectful, there enough dooches on the scene...
