U can either go with turntables and a mixer or go for the cheaper digital option, like a controller.
U know a quick google and YouTube search wouldn't have hurt before u post.
Anyway, as I was saying, if u want to use ur Mac book, u could use a DVS system, or basically turntables on the computer. Or a more controllerism style layout with BIG BUTTONS!!!
All Skrillex is doing is re arranging his songs, basically just playing different loops. The black thing with knobs and a cross fader is a mixer. And this isn't djing. Or very good djing anyway.

If you really want to get into DJing, try getting something cheap first, the Numark Mixtrack Pro is a great beginner controller with nice big jogs and lots of controls, but if you've never DJed before, you won't be playing in clubs in a while, DJing takes loads of practice.

Oor I suppose you could go the Skrillex route and throw on a pre-mixed CD and pretend to be DJing by twisting random knobs and flicking faders on your trigger finger whilst waving your fists in the air... Seems to be working out alright for him.

That would be a real mixer, Either the DJM800 or DJM900.

Idealistcly, learn to beatmatch on CDJs then get gigs via that.

But maybe your production will take you forward and get you bookings, which in that case you can take whatever you like.

But if you dont know what a mixer even looks like you have a LONG time before your let loose in a club.

go with cdjs and a mixer man! i wouldnt go straight for a controller !

better to get cdjs and learn how to beat match and mix on them, in case a club you end up playing at has them already.

Depending on your budget i would say go for a set of 350's or 400's

There is a lot of research involved. There are a LOT of different options when it comes to mixing music. It's not really as simple as it used to be 20 years ago.

Really, it's just about reading forums/blogs and getting an idea of where you want to go with it. Taking a trip down to a store that carries the stuff also helps a ton, like Guitar Center. It'll give you a chance to physically play with some of the equipment, and some of the people who work there aren't complete nobs.

Once you have a better idea of what goes into DJing, that's the point where you should start thinking about what kind of setup will work best for you. It's also not a cheap hobby. I imagine most people here have AT LEAST $1000 invested into their setups. Some much more, some a bit less.

I'd say just go with a Traktor S2 or the s4, they are great controllers and allot cheaper then getting into vinyl etc.. And if you ever want to go with vinyl, just get traktors digital vinyl. Works great.

ok so ive read everyones post's and i believe i want to start off with cdj's
im not sure if that is what i should do, but i am very serious about my production and djing

also, im sure i would have to buy a mixer as well, and they are very high priced, the DJM900 was like 1500 dollars wow!
