Have you checked out other peoples mappings for your Mixtrack? I don't own one but I know Traktor Bible is a good resource!

That might be a good place to start.

I've used them both, and loved them both, but I switched to traktor and won't go back. VDJ has some cool fx, and is skin-able but Traktor has more fx, and is MUCH easier to midi map imo.
+1 on the demos though. Play with both, and see what you like. What works great for me, may be terrible for you. In the end, you are mixing tracks, and both do just that. Find the one YOU like better. I like FX.

I personally think virtual dj gets maybe a little too much hate, if you prefer an overlapping view for waveforms go for VDJ. Overall though Traktor is a much more powerful piece of software.
