    Default Upcoming Jazz Funk Gig

    Hello DJTT!
I've got an upcoming funk/jazz gig where there are two different bands playing and then me in the end. Im a bit nervous about the mixing tho'. Any good methods at mixing a lot of diverse funk and jazz music (not necessarily electronic) or should i just use the famous echo-freeze? And any of you guys got some funky music and some up tempo jazz? :-)
I can post pictures if you want!

There is a recent blog post on digitaldjtips that argues that mixing is not needed at all.

    I disagree but YMMV.

DJing isn't just about beatmatching. When I play funk and soul I don't attempt to beatmatch two minute tracks into each other. It'd sound shit. And echo freeze gets old quickly.
    I just play the records.

you can (and should) still mix, though you don't want to do long blends. Mix a couple bars maybe, or find cool transitions in and out of tracks. As you get to know your tracks it becomes easier to find mix-in and -out points in songs; but as you cue up each song listen for the 1-2-3-4 and figure out the tempo and where the 1- is and think of creative ways to make it work with the playing song. Echo freeze is nice but it's far from the only way to mix and if it's all you do it will get old fast true.
