    Default essential mixes

is there anything wrong with doing an essential mix?

IE ( a Nero essentials mix)

i am a part of my school's radio station, and the manager wants the dj's to do like essential mixes.

im just debating between, Nero/Afrojack/Benny Benassi/Pendulum/Flux

Sometimes, i feel like doing dedicated sets... ie. just playing heaps of one artist's songs... Which i guess is what you're getting at?

I love doing trance ones ie above and beyond or similar. Can get some pretty cool stuff out of it....
So no, I guess there is nothing wrong with doing an 'essential mix'
And if i was in your position, i would probably chose Afrojack

    ^ afrojack YES!
Essential mixes are great, especially if you are in the mood to listen to just one artists tracks. Great idea.

you don't just play one artist, set your focus on the artist and their record label, but if there is a track that fits the style, play it

I would also think of doing a Dada Life mix. That would be sick... Infact... I might do that later this week

if you'd like some reference, there's an iTunes podcast called " The Dance Contributions" and it's essentials mixes from artists, minded a lot are outdated, but still good imo.

Sounds like a good idea. However, I feel like Afrojack's songs can be get quite repetitive if you play them one after the other. I like the idea of playing songs from the same label.

Pick a good artist and an essential mix as as good as any.

Sounds like your teacer is trying to be "cool" by mentioning Essential Mixes!!!

Essential mixes were never about a single artist, though, although they'd often throw in their own stuff as advertisments...

An essential mix would be a showcase of YOU. Play whatever you want.
