    Default Question about converting vinyl

    I'm recording my vinyl through spdif. Recordings are captured in 96khz 24bit (using Traktor Scratch so won't be burning to cd).

    The spdif output on my digital mixer is very low & there is no gain on my interface and I'm recording into Logic. Is there another audio process i can use to boost the volume other than gain and normalization? Would gain be appropiate? Didn't really want to normalize

    Do you think normalizing could degrade the sound? Make it sound less phatt?

    What benefit are you getting by capturing in this format ? I'm doing mine at the min but just using the analogue outs into my soundcard.

    using the SPDIF in would be the best way here, as everything is converted to digital inside my DJM 800 anyway, and this way you miss out two extra stages of conversion, which means one less opportunity for the sound quality to be degraded.

    Using the analogue outs on the mixer, the conversion process goes:

    Vinyl --(A/D conversion)--> DJM --(D/A conversion)--> Soundcard analogue input --(A/D conversion)--> Disk

    Using the digital outs on the mixer, the conversion process goes:

    Vinyl --(A/D conversion)--> DJM --> Soundcard digital input ---> Disk/Hardrive
