To try out the Pro Tools 10 demo. It works so far despite my computer not being Avid Certified. Man…iLok has a great business model. I bought a $50 USB dongle so I could try a demo of software. At least I didn't have to buy an Avid or (god forbid) M-Audio interface just to try it this time.

Guess what my next purchase is going to be. (Hint: the word educational comes up)

Next 3 purchases are going to be an audio interface, a monitor controller, and a rack case.

I hear ya bud. Buying an Ilok just for a demo sucks. I was somewhat familiar w/ pro tools (no need to demo) so I just bought the boxed version which comes w/ an Ilok key. Boxed was the same price as a download, so that was cool.

13 inch Macbook pro with 750 GB. I didn't need 15 inch, and I actually like a smaller laptop. This was a bittersweet purchase because it came after my blackbook of 4 years met an unfortunate demise due to some orange juice. RIP.

That depends on how quickly I can sell things, but yeah…I was still in the "considering it" stage with the DVS when I posted that. And depending on how much I get for my current gear and what kind of prices I can find on 1200s, the other stuff might still come first.

And the monitor controller at least will not be far behind…and a rack case to put it in. And at that point, I'd already have spent more than the cost of the sound card…I think. I'm not actually sure what rack cases cost. I assume they're outrageously expensive.

I knew I was going to like it. The 13" MBP is the only apple computer with firewire that Avid hasn't certified. I looked into it and there didn't appear to be a reason why it isn't certified, so I decided to try it. It was worth the cost of an iLok to me to make sure I could actually run the software when Avid says I can't.

I still need to see if I can plug into my friend's 003R to see if there's actually something wrong with my firewire chipset that I haven't noticed yet before I go all nuts and just order it. I wish I could find somebody with the sound card I'm going to be buying too, but that's probably too much to ask for…unless someone on DJTT in Atlanta has an Audiofire 12 sitting around.
