S2 vs APC40

Like, is there any distinct advantage of the S2 (or other comparable classic 2 deck USB controller) over the APC40 (besides jogs and bus power?) (sound card and chromacap faders not fitting well notwithstanding)

Can you do less, not with some creative mapping and a sound card

Will it feel good to use live?, depends on your style.

Is it as good value, IMHO not right now, when the S2 goes up to regular price, perhaps.

I come from a turntable background, moved onto traktor and since I got the APC40 have since gone 100% Ableton primarily due to being pissed off at the layout of the APC for Traktor.

Basic things like EQ are a just pain in the ass, regular FX use is a pain in the Ass, Mapping it (with LED's) is a pain in the ass.

It honestly sounds like you just want justification for going with the cheaper controller.

It will work, and perform, not particularly good value now IMHO .. but do what you want and THINK about how you are prepared you are for something that is not very intuitive to use with Traktor. AND may not work with current mappings given that there are 3 variations of Note/cc value on different generation APC's
