Just a word of warning. I used a cheap edirol USB to phono thing to digitise loads of vinyl back in the day and it sounds like shit when I listen to it now.
Worth investing in a decent sound card which will come in handy in future.

What laptop model do you have?
There are many models out there where you can actually switch the input from mic to line-in...
