Would like anyone to share their opinion on what they feel is proper technique to controlling the crossfader? Not in terms of scratching but just normal mixing. Thank you.

Step 1: Move from Left to Right
Step 2: Move from Right to Left

Thanks for all the very intuitive answers. (Cue fart noise) What I am asking is referring to cutting/chopping beats like at 2:13 in this video
or in the entire beginning of this video
Is there a proper way to control the crossfader for these techniques or a way proven to be better than another like how people crab the shit out of the fader when scratching?

Try it like he does it, throw iin an acapella, leave it alone for 2-3 secs, then drop that beat hard. Believe it would work better with dubstep, or before the drop on a regular house track.
