Default What is the attraction to music about drugs

Why is it that people are so drawn to music about drugs? And if you try to tell me they aren't, I'll fight you . But really, if it didn't sell, people wouldn't keep making it. I think the electronic music scene is especially notorious for this, and it only perpetuates the stereo type that anyone that listens to electronic music ingests drugs. Hardstyle I think is especially filled with mindless songs promoting drug use.

It should be noted I'm not one of these people who's like "I don't think there should be music like this because it promotes because I'm pure and drugs corrupt America and... blah blah blah." All I'm saying is I don't understand why so many people dig it.

Some examples (as if you need them).

its something people can identify with. for some people, taking drugs inspired to really listen to music (if you get my meaning). some people just think drugs are cool...

i couldnt listen to either of the songs you posted, but i think the appeal may also be genre/culture dependant

Music has always been associated with drugs like in the 60s Hippie music with weed, 70s lsd, 80s and 90s heavy metal with cocaine, Reggae with weed again , and well us with mdma mainly. So they are defently attached, and very related.

So it makes you think that certain type of music is enjoyed more with certain drugs.... Maybe the muscians are taking that drugs for inspiration also...

herm.... "I wanna rock and roll some of the time. and party a reasonable amount so as to not disrupt the delicate balance that is my body, so i tend to eat organic, and don't do drugs, and am usually the designated driver. straight edge hardcore"

just doesn't have the same ring to it as.
"i wanna rock and roll all night, and party every day."

good call sir. lots people like drugs. always have, always will. putting references in music is appealing to those people, and it is the goal of a musician to appeal to others (with some exception)
