Hey, I will be in the market for a keyboard soon, wondering what you guys recommend. I will have a budget of only $500. I have been looking at the mpk49 as its one of the devices natively supported by Ableton. I want to steer clear of m-audio products as I have an old oxygen 8 that sucks balls. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you only looking at 49 keys?
What weight (of the keys, not the unit) are you looking for?

I figured 49 was optimal for the space that I have, semi weighted would be ok I think. I might take piano lessons this summer though so maybe I will need more keys?

If you will be taking piano lessons, you should go with hammer action for sure. I always prefer the full 88, or as many as possible, but the action is far more important.
