Default New Young DJ Starting - What to Recommend?

    Hi DJ TechTool Freaks,

Just kidding - I know we all are. Cannot stay off this site.

I have a young Kid (16) starting out as a DJ. (As he says: Chicks dig it, but he loves music.)

What should I recommend as a start up setup. Money is tight, keep that in mind.

I have an old laptop that I can run XP on and tweak it. (Dual core 1 gig ram)
I have 2 midi fighter so one is a spare at this stage. Thought I'll start him with my spare one.
I have Traktor LE licensed version that came with a previous controller.

Will that be good enough to get him going?

I don't want to confuse him, but also want him to get started without heavy mistakes as some of made starting out buying controllers that we hardly used.
He will be at some parties with me but I don't like sharing my S4.
I feel that some people don't respect things they didn't purchase and that is my baby!

    Anything else.

His music Genres are a bit out of my style with dubstep as his main Genre. R&B is in there which is something I don't play at all unless I playlist it.
Then I'm trying to get him into Electro / House- Top 40 remixes etc.
He really wants to get into the Radio top 40 Hard dance styles, but I cannot seem to find him some
    decent music there. Any ideas?

I want him to save and buy either the S2 or one of the VCI controllers
    Thank you

If you can up the RAM on the laptop to 2gb you'll be sorted. Install ASIO4ALL too.

    Thank you JB.
You don't like the On board sound as standard setting?

he´d need a soundcard. in that case the audio dj2 would be perfect and affordable
I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.

It might be hard for him to do transitions without any faders or knobs. Perhaps the least expensive DJ controller is the Oxygen 8 (or Oxygen 25). DJTT even has a mapping for an older version of Traktor: http://www.djtechtools.com/2009/10/1...aktor-pro-1-2/

Edit: I guess he was mixing externally with the Oxygen 8, which means you'd still need a mixer. Still, you could put together your own custom mapping that allows you to mix internally.

i guess a cheap all in one is a great way to start but its also up to how he wants to dj. more of a dj or a turntableist or a controllerist?

Unfortunately, an LE license doesn't get you any discount on Traktor Pro. But now you can buy Traktor Pro straight up for just $89.
