Default Incorporating slow music during a set

Hey all, I'm djing a sorority's formal tonight and some of them want some slow music incorporated into the night. How do I go about this without clearing the dance floor? Set is going to last about 3 hours

Start off with slow music and build it from there? unless you're playing EDM from the begging and you want to play slow music later, i'd start playing EDM with lots of female vocals to lower the energy, tracks like kaskades, ''Room for happiness'', then blend in whatever slow music you wanna play.

Easy. Ask the social chair what a few key sorority songs are and play them randomly throughout the night. They love the slow songs if they are relevant to their sorority. It makes no difference how you bring it in - if the girls know it, you'll get a great reaction.

Don't do much EDM, that is the way to clear the dance floor at a sorority formal.

this is not going to be an EDM event. This is going to be top 40, hip hop and top 40 dance mixes. You have to change your mentality from the club DJ that doesn't want to clear the floor. At events such as this where you will have all different types of people with different tastes in music be prepared for anything. Also depending on how this event is organized and where it is, there is going to be a sit down dinner somewhere in the middle much like a wedding. This is not the time to keep them on the dancefloor, most banquet managers get really pissed when their servers are trying to serve and the DJ is playing pumping music and the dance floor is packed and the servers can't get through. So you purposely clear the dance floor and this is the time w hen you slip in some of those requests that wouldn't fit anywhere else but still save a slow song for after dinner. When they are done eating you play 1 of those slow songs and every girl will grab their date and drag them to the dance floor and wahla, packed dance floor dancing to a slow song only for you to hit em with a banger right after that.....

You have to remember that the guests mentality is also different. They have been programmed after years of going to weddings and other events like this to not be up and dancing the entire time. The beginning will be very slow, people coming in and talking, finding their table and probably not even paying attention to you. You have to ease them in for the first hour. You can then make the music louder an start pumping it a little more to see how they react. Once dinner is over, you play a slow song and then the rest of the night is yours unless they have some kind of ceremony or some presentation.
