Hey everyone this is a noob question but what is the purpose of breaks that only last for seconds or even longer breaks? Can they be utilized in transitions?

most definitely. any kind of break in the bass allows for a transition to take place. if the bass cuts for even 2 beats, it's enough time to cut it and bring in a new kick drum or bassline.

Talking about breaks, as in break beats the genre?
breaks are often used to build energy, or to just break the track up a bit. make sure you dont mix in a break down. that is very important.
Nothing more fun than a break and then some phattttt basss s s ssss!
ooh
its a genre, characterized by the breakbeat. google it.
This wording is a bit confusing, I think you meant, don't mix 'during' a breakdown, but mixing from the build of one track -> breakdown of another can sound really good and is a pretty common thing, just clarifying for anyone out there, (who is learning) because I was confused and thought you meant the latter.

yeah.."breakbeats" and "breaks" should be clearly separated :P i think i know what you're talking about, and i feel that they're either A. build energy or B. spice up the rhythm by adding something new
