Default What Technics for me...scratching and mixing..

I have a pair of Denon 3900s... I use Traktor.

Decided I want tables + an X1 instead.

I might be able to trade 1 of my 3900 for a nice condition pair of 1200MK2s without cartridges (+ $)...

I am learning to scratch and I mix drum and bass music.

Is this an adequate turntable for both functions? Since I have more $ tied up in the 3900s... should I opt for a more expensive model of Technics... what are the advantages?

As a secondary question to those that scratch and mix....do you set up your tables battle style? Think it would be kind of awkward to mix this way... Although using DVS you can cheat and tempo sync..

Any Technics would more than suitable for scratching and mixing. If you aren't concerned about the money, I would personally opt for a pair of MK5Gs. They are the newest Technics and have slightly better torque and wow and flutter ratings. They also post digital pitch faders which all but eliminates the issues of two zero points and drifting pitch from the older models. Especially if scratching since they have the extra pitch range on them. There are a tremendous amount of decks out there which are suitable for scratching and since you don't have prior experience on TTs, then I would recommend you explore all your options.

As far as battle style goes you don't have to set them up this way. I had mine regular style for a long time. I set up battle style simply to save room on my desk. I am used to it now, so I set up either way. Mixing is mixing no matter how your decks are set up.

Just to be it clear, make sure its one of these variants:

    SL-1200/1210 MK2/MK3/M3D/MK3D/MK5/M5G/MK5G.

Because you might end up buying another model such as SL1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, and so on.

I ended up selling my SC3900s... and ended up buying a pair of custom m3d's for $1000 + shipping. Black + red paint job with all red led's.... more interested though that had new replacement parts; upgraded rca's, internal ground, calibrated etc. Had enough left over for needles + a Komplete 8 upgrade from NI. I own maschine and the Komplete 8 Upgrade is under $200... crazy.. I just wanted FM8.. own Kontakt + Massive already... probably will be able to sell just those 2 to pay for the upgrade.

Tables will arrive this week... will post some pics in the setup section. Had to build a new table for my new tables..
