Default Need a mic, help. (Recording Mic)

Hi, I've been producing Hip-Hop for quite a while, also a little EDM, but mostly Hip-Hop instrumentals, and now with a couple of friends who write, we've decided to start recording at my house, problem is I don't have a mic, and when I searched for one in guitar center I had no idea which one to choose. Please need help, anyone who knows about recording mics. Help appreciated, thank you. (A good price would be appreciated also)

    You'll also want a decent Mic Pre-Amp.

    What equipment do you have?

What kind of voice are you recording?

    What's your budget?

    How serious are you?

If you're serious, an SM58 is a talkback mic or a hammer. If you're doing it for S&G, it's probably all you need.

I don't think I'd ever use a dynamic mic for serious recording, but that depends on what your studio setup entails.

A $300 dynamic mic was used to record most of Michael Jackson's vocals. "Dynamic" doesn't mean it's not for serious recording……just the SM58's popularity is really overblown.

FWIW - a couple MCs I know made mixtapes with the Blue Yeti and they sounded pretty damn good. If you're on a budget I'd recommend it.

for decent instrument and vocal recordings an sm58 with a cheap presonus preamp should do just fine... you can also look at some of the lower end mxl's if if you are on a serious budget
