    Default Macbookpro comparisons

    Hi All,

Ok guys...need your input in clearing this out...at the moment the 15.4in macbookpro is offered in the 2.4ghz and the 2.5ghz processors...the other difference in the 2.4ghz one comes with a 256mb video card and 2.5ghz comes with 512mb card and a bigger harddrive. Other than that everithing else is identical...so tell me is there much of a difference in terms of processing speed/power between these two specs??? please excuse me if my question has been asked to death but i am not much of tech guy and dont really understand differences in processors...does a 0.1 difference means that the 2.5ghz is faster or better???

Finding it hard to make any sense out of this post.
Maybe it's me, maybe it's the time in the evening, maybe it's the wine, but could you please add some white lines to your story, as that this is too big of a pile of info for me.

    Please rephrase.

Max it out, you may as well, that sort of stuff is a bitch to upgrade later.

I've got a 2.6 Duo with 4 gig Ram and the 512 card and it smokes everything I can throw at it. And I throw a lot at it.

    Hi there...

My apologies for my earlier post, i didnt explain properly...yesterday i went to my local mac shop and was offered these two specs of the macbookpro (the 2.4ghz and 2.5ghz). my question is how big of a speed/power difference are they between these two processors? The other reason i am asking is the price difference between the two are quite big (i can buy another VCI with that amount). Lets say you put both spec laptops in a side by side comparison and both running the same apps (traktor, ableton etc.)... can you really tell if the 2.5ghz can outperform the 2.4ghz....

I hope all this is making sense to you guys...i am just a confused consumer constantly bombarded with ever increasing manufacturers claims of speed/power in processors (and price!!!).

    Thanks in advance...

I'm going out on a limb and saying you would not notice any difference in Ableton or Traktor worthy of the extra cash, you would be better getting more ramz.

Do you even need the pro for what your doing?

Will you be using it for video editing or graphics?

If it is just for mixing then your better of getting a mac book and saving your money.

    hey chubbz
if its just for muzik thing, you not gonna feel the differenes between 2,4 and 2,5.
also with a bigger graphik card, but if you used stuff like dreamweaver, flash, photoshop, indesign or finalcut its always better to have the best process and card, i mean, you win between 5 and 25% more reaction (, to depend the program and the process) but muzik program dont use grafik card and 2,4 its muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh suffisante, but anyway you can get more ram , its always better for your quotidien thing.......
i use mac and i feel the different with my older machine (1,67 process and 2giga ram) just when i used the stuff like ADOBE SET

    cheers

    Hi Chubbz,
I think the 2.5ghz version has 6mb L2/L3 cache also (the 2.4 has 3mb), this would also give a speed increase over 2.4ghz version.

All I can say is buy the best you can afford as the better you buy longer it will last
Personally I think I would opt buy the 2.4ghz version and use the money saved to max out the ram and hard drive as I don't believe the speed bump between the two models will be that vast.

Dont buy your ram from apple though, get a 4gb ram kit from crucial or owc, apple RAM is really expensive. you can sell the memory that comes installed from apple on ebay.

If you're fairly proficient at taking things apart you can upgrade your SATA hard drive yourself. It's is a wise move to install a 7200rpm drive when dealing with audio software (M-Audio Torq insists on one). Plus it means you get to keep the hard drive you remove which you can install in to a cheap 2.5" usb/firewire SATA drive enclosure to use as an external drive (many enclosures are available cheap on ebay).

If your unsure of how to do any kind of mac hardware install/repair there are some really good detailed step by step guides with pictures and tool requirements on http://www.ifixit.com

    Hope this helps

Thank you guys for the responses, yah i will be using it for music apps (traktor, ableton...) was considering the macbook but i wanted a bigger screen been using a 15in lappy for awhile and i am used to it (better for watchin porn ) and another factor for me was the shared memory for video card on the macbook. I prefer systems that has dedicated memory for its video card.

In saying all that, i am not a rich person that can buy the latest or best system everitime a company comes out with a product...but i dont mind paying that extra $$$ if its worth the money...hence i asked if the gap between those two specs are really worth the xtra money and it doesnt help when companies comes out with a couple of products with nearly the same specs but at different prices. For the average consumer who dont have a phd in computers or whatever (like me) it does get confusing.

Thank you again for your replies, really appreciate the effort guys...

    cheers,
    Chubbz
