    Default Hip-Hop is dead?

    Uh-oh what have I started?

Will this reach the epic proportions of the Drum and Bass thread?

    Nas seems to think so...

Real hip hop to me is stuff like Tribe Called Quest, Blackstar, and Common. That's the only examples I can think of at the moment since i've been listening to those 3 quite a bit lately. Hip hop like that has such strong rhymes that tells a good story or raps about issues in the world. All this new stuff is great to get a party going but so much of it sounds the same. Guys like lil wayne who rely on things like autotune and cannot rap about anything besides how great he thinks he is gets no love from me

Plus the metaphors in old hip hop hit hard. It almost catches you off guard. These new guys couldn't make a catchy rhyme to save their life.

These ring tone rappers today claiming to be Hip-Hop artists have no idea, at all, what Hip-Hop is. I can't stand the music that is out now....minus the original artists before this BS. There are a few around that are the exception but not many. I have changed what I primarily DJ from playing almost all hip-hop to now all dance/house.
On a bright note..Hip Hop is doing ok...I'm going to the MethodMan/Redman/Ghostface concert with DeLaSoul and others opening for them on Thursday in Times Square.
