i actually got some toothless guy walk up to me and ask for some greatful Dead songs to be played.....
the wedding was a more techhouse loving couple.

I had a girl come up to me asking me to play Beck while I was in the middle of a deep/tech house set. Fast forward a couple of weeks: a woman came up to me asking for Stevie Wonder. I just kindly tell these types that I'm not that kind of DJ (who takes requests). If they persist, I throw on the headphones and turn away, and that normally does the trick.

I mean requests arent a bad thing. If you can play the request great, if you cant...oh well. Like I said before, if it's a bad request, you prob shouldnt even have that song on ur laptop, just tell the truth. If you get a lot of requests in a night, then thats usually a sign ur not playing songs that most people like......so take it as a hint

i just say " ok ill get that on in a bit" and then dont play it, they either get tired/embarrassed of asking eventually, or most common , they get buzzed enough to not know the difference. also if its been like 30 minutes or so since they asked and they come by again i just say" o i already played that about 15 minutes ago, sorry im not playing it twice."

this person has no say over shit generally and even if they turn out to be important its a he said she said over whether you actually played the song.


i know its kind of a hard line to take but over the years of putting up with people climbing all over you asking for whatever.. this has been the path of least resistance for me personally


edit : obviously if its a song i can play, id do that , but im sure this isnt what the OP is asking advice on.
