Usually a backspin is just taking the record or jog wheel and spinning it back hard while taking the level of the line down on the beat and potentially bringing the new song's level up.

He does one at 37:37 in here, during a build at that.
I believe it's one of the 6 colour effects (one of the top 3 row) on a DJM-900 with the backspin itself. I saw it being performed in a DJ Sound Show video by some other dj's.
