Default What do you think about when you DJ?

    When I DJ ...

I think about Sync, Harmonic Mixing, Vinyl vs. Mp3 (which is better), what I'm gonna wear when I DJ next week ... stuff like that.

Sometimes I find myself pondering why no one in the venue is mad at me for using Sync and Beatmasher 2 ... because the experts that often intrude on discussions I'm having regarding digital DJ'ing, are very adamant that they will.

    Please don't ban me.

I think about the stress I'm putting on my equipment, the stress I'm putting on my ears, and the crowd. Sometimes I target specific people in the crowds, who I know are likely to hire me if I play really well. (find those people by checking birthdays of a few people on the Facebook guest list)

But if it's just a chill shindig where the music is secondary, I think about my place a DJ. I think about how good I am, how bad i use to be, and how great others are, and then I try to place myself appropriately without bias. I'm a competitive person, that likes having an edge on my competition.

    That's cool, Zer0 ... I was being sarcastic with my list ...

But I love that you brought up stress on the gear (and ears). I CAN'T STAND drinks and smoke chilling around the rig! Or people that just don't get it! "Back up, homie ... Keep your drink (and smoke) away from my setup!" Only person blowing smoke on the Macbook is gonna be ... ME!

I find myself doing the same thing, as well ... Except I try to key in on the best dancer ... And FEED her or him with the style they respond best to! They'll then show the others how to do it ... and make weaker dancers more likely to stick around in the mob that the good dancers create!

I foresee a troll hopping on this post like "ALL DJ'S FEED THE BEST DANCER! This has been discussed!"

I don't really know what to say ... or do with my hands!

I keep my thoughts on music and music only no matter how hard it can be Since I'm using a lot of different effect presets mapped to my controllers I got a sort of buffer in my mind letting me know what should I apply to set in next 64 beats or less - I'm not a robot btw. After more than 10 years of DJing mixing tracks comes pretty natural to me and I always got a peace of my mind focused to live remixing keeping my sets more interesting to crowd.

things ti´m thinking about while djing:

    "i need to pee!"
"what was that name of the song again? it would totally fit in right now."
    "where´s my drink?"
"oh girl, please stay away with that drink from my expensive gear!"
"why haven´t i thought about this transition before? that´s awsome!"
    "she´s hot!"
    "still need to pee!"
I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.

Pretty much as above. Or would be if I was in a club.

More generally (as I mix at home), I am usually thinking

"how long since I last had a smoke? Was it the last tune? Would it be unreasonable to have another?"

"how long since I last had a beer? Was it the last tune? Would it be unreasonable to have another?"

"how long since I last had a vodka? Was it the last tune? Would it be unreasonable to have another?"

"how long since I last had a piss? Was it the last tune? Would it be unreasonable to have another?"

"FUCK, this tune is about to run out while I have been fucking about drinking, smoking and pissing!!!"

'oh wait she has a boyfriend'
    'have i already played this?'
'could i get away with a mix cd right now'
    'wheres my beer'
    'WHERES MY BEER'
    'Oh yeah i drank it'
'no i will not play hip hop'
'yes i am playing something you can dance to, just you cant dance'

Me and her weren't meant to last. But me and music, now that's forever.
