    Default Forum signup question

    Hey guys,

We need to make the signup question easier to follow on the forums

Currently the question is "What is the word tac spelled backwards" - the answer being cat

Some user, particularly though users who's English is not their first language have difficulty answering this question.

So basically i am starting this thread to see that if we as a community can come up with a question that everyone agrees is easy to answer and yet keeps the bots out.

The answer should be very easy for a human to answer but difficult for a bot to answer - bots have no problem doing maths related questions (1+1=?) so they cannot be used.

Kudos to anyone who can come up with something super simple that we can all agree upon

Are you able to automate picture generation and scramble it in the same fashion as CAPTCHA?

You could use the pic to generate two numbers and still use arithmetic.

Or you could ask "What is your username spelt backwards?". I don't know the peculiarities of spam bots, or their current level of sophistication, but I'm not sure they can quite anser logic like that.

We tried captcha for a while there and it worked horribly - our experience has been that a simple user question is the most effective method of keeping spam off the forums. Its just that the question has to be written in such a way that its super simple for everyone even with a super low level of english can answer yet still cannot be answered by bots.

picture of a vinyl with "what is this called?" question. both "vinyl" and "record" could be answers that give authorization.
