From just looking at the N4 ( as I haven't used one) there doesn't seem to be a big difference in the controls it has compared to the S4 or VCI400. The N4 is the only one out of the 3 with an actual stand alone (hardware) mixer that doesn't need software to work. BTW The VCI400 and S4 are controllers with mixer sections, not really what most call a mixer.
To spice things up you could add a F1 or midifighter to your setup.
In my opinion, the next step up from an all-in-one controller would be a real mixer like the NI Z2, a DJM, or Xone; and either turntables, CD players, or modular controllers like the X1 and F1.
