Default Do you see the pending demise of itunes as a blessing or a curse?

So it is official - iTunes is to be discontinued. Do you see this as a blessing or a curse? As it is no longer a library, but an online store, is it a big deal for the DJs? I must say, I enjoy it's 'organisational convenience' and am concerned about ongoing support for my beloved iPods. Other than that should I be celebrating? A stand-alone music app has been confirmed, but there are still no details. What are your sentiments?

I think it's just a restructuring of the Apps.

iTunes has grown into this giant mess of Music, Videos, iDevice Manager, store, etc.

Breaking it apart is long overdue.

Apple would be insane to break support for existing iTunes libraries or iPods. I think that it will all continue to work the same, just under a music focused redesigned App.

I couldn’t do it the way I do it without iTunes.

I got no problem with them splitting it all out - as long as the music product maintains its compatibility with my other music software.

Might actually be good for me getting an iTunes Library that ONLY deals with music files.

As long as the new Music app still spits out an xml file that can be seen by other apps, it will be business as usual.

We're talking about apple though, so nothing can be predicted.

^Precisely. Scares the hell outta me.

Worst comes to worst we stick w/iTunes 12, though.

    I hope.

I suspect it won't be possible to say on an old version of iTunes, unless you also stay on old version of MacOS.

From Mojave onwards, there wasn't a separate download for just the iTunes app. It was bundled in with the OS download.

I found that out a few months ago when my Mac got an upgrade to a new version of the OS & iTunes, but my PC was still on the previous version of iTunes & unable to open my Mac iTunes library as it was from a later version.

I’m windows only - but that doesn’t fill me with hope...

If you're windows only, you may be better off. ....Music (or whatever the new version of iTunes will be called) will always be a separate download.

.....Unless they decide to kill it on windows & make it Mac only!

I've grown to adapt to iTunes and making it work for me. But I am looking forward to something strictly for music from Apple.
