Ryan, make sure you write to tags after you do everything, and when you rename the file just relocate it, instead of re-importing it.

it should all still be there
    It's the FAQ. Read it.

so i got my tracks beat gridded and saved.
but when i rename the tracks the beatgrid info gets lost…
the reason i rename the files is because i have a format for my files, to keep track of bpms outside of traktor -
    ARTIST - SONG TITLE (REMIX) - BPM.mp3
the thing is i renamed a file because the BPM was incorrect and thus lost the beatgrid and cue points… are there any work arounds to this, or should i try and not rename my files after i beatgrid them….
    thanks,

i've since switched to another format:
ARTIST - SONG TITLE - REMIX and keep the bpm embedded.

so does anyone know if the tags get lost when you rename a file? are they really stored with the file or in traktor somewhere? it just doesn't make sense that renaming the file would lose the cue points and all that jazz....
Makes sense. Either don't change your file name or use the 'relocate' feature in Traktor's browser to re-establish the stripe info with that file.

Just out of curiosity...why do you care about filenames when you're in Traktor? Traktor doesn't display the filename, it uses the ID3 tag info to display Track, Artist, etc etc...

Everything goes into one folder. I beatgrid, and enter category info in the ID3 tage (genre, comments, etc.) so that I can search out what I want on the fly and not worry about locations. E.g., Genre: Funky Tech House, Comment: Near Peak, Heavy Rock Guitar. Traktor's Search function takes the place of any actual categorization beforehand, and lets me do a lot of customization and adjustment.

I'll also often mark insertion points or loops, and enter key lyrics in the "lyrics" tag because it drives me crazy when I can remember a track but not its title.

If you use MIK, keep using MIK. You don't want to switch key detection programs around because of the difference in algorithms and such. If you do switch, rescan your old stuff.

If you were using these programs how i think they should be used, that is using them for a tool to help find the correct key and not just relying upon it to give you the key, then this is no problem as you will always have the correct key.

i'm super ocd about things on my computer. so my mp3s have to be perfect like that.

i also organize as for example:

    90's (MAIN FOLDER)
    - ROCK
    - POP
    - ELECTRONIC / DANCE
    - RnB / HIP HOP

which works pretty good for now...

Does everyone keep their ID3 Tags updated, or is there a specific version that works great with most apps.
    Thank Ya!!!

    Download/Rip.
    Check kbps and quality.
    Move to genre folder.
    Make sure ID3s are correct.

My collection hasn't gotten big enough that I've had to specialise how it's sorted.
