    Default Older DJM any good?

So I've been waiting for a deal to come around on a Denon X1600 or X1700 or an Ecler, but I've been a bit slow at purchasing and missing out on them

I'd like to keep myself entertained though for the time being. I know people ragged on the DJM600 quite a bit for really poor sound quality. How were the other DJMs? Considering picking up a DJM400 for 150-200, but since it's not a 4 channel mixer, it doesn't seem to have that many reviews. I'm the typical EDM house/trance (bash on me all you want) mixer with A->B mixing so I only need 2 channels in the mean time anyways until my mixing skills get better.

tl;dr: DJM400/older DJMs vs the newer DJMs. Worth the huge increase in price?

As an owner of a djm 400, I would tell you that if you can find one at a fair price, it's worth it.
Sound quality is fine. If you only plan on using it at home or at a small party, you won't be disappointed.

I still love mine and wouldn't trade it for any other mixer. The effects are decent, better then on the djm 600. If you only use 2 channels, the djm 400 will serve you well.
If you need any more details feel free to pm me.

Oh really? I coulda swore people were saying they were awful..

There's a DJM600 on sale for <300 bucks. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I'm definitely mixing at home so I don't need club quality stuff. That said, I would still love to pick up an X1600. DJing is just a hobby for me. As much as I'd love to go tour the world and whatnot, I don't think it's my true calling.

Sound quality compared to my X1600 is night and day. However, the 600 is bulletproof and a perfectly fine mixer.

    Aw man. I'm so split.

I've never been big on effects, but I don't think I'm actually gonna use the other two channels on the DJM600 anyways... but it'd still be nice to have a 4 channel mixer :|

I think I am leaning towards the 400 though. 600 seems a little too dated.

Mate, if you just want a DJM-style mixer to hold you over until you get something decent, just buy a used Behringer DJX; they're usually available for PEANUTS (cheapest I've seen is like £40 for a DJX-750).

whatever you do don't buy a djx... worst mixer ever! out of the 600 and 400 i'd go the 400. The 400 is a digital mixer with full kill isolator eq's and I'm pretty sure the mixer has midi out "don't quote me on that though", in comparison to the 600 which is analog meaning it has inherent distortion when you push the eq's past 0db, it has no headroom and the eq's don't kill the sound. on top of that the noise floor is horrendous by today's digital standards.
