I generally normalize my songs first but you can use a bunch of free apps.
-Itunes (Mac or PC) http://www.apple.com/itunes/
-Burn (Mac) http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html
-InfraRecorder (PC) http://infrarecorder.org/
Burn and InfraRecorder are very nice basic CD/DVD burning software, I use them both.
I dont think it really matters what you burn off with, but if you grab mp3gain (free) and normalise your tracks first you get a good result. We do this for the CDJ guys in the crew now and they say there's much less fluffing around with gains needed due to this wee little app.
