How big is your current HDD? How much memory have you got left on it? What do you store on it?

i run a 256gb intel ssd as my main drive, and i only use it for programs/OS (I am not sure of the memory left on it)

all of my recording go on my 1TB external hdd, my music is on my 700gb external

another internal would be for most frequent DJ songs, as well as samples

    I've done it, and yes.
    One hdd for the os
One for the music and software.

One hdd for the os and djing
One hdd for the os and internet

One for windows one for osx. - but there shall be no speak of that.

I went this route and have no regrets. It makes having different profiles/partitions a cinch. Not having to carry any external drives and having a clean OS on a SSD gives some extra comfort.

If you're looking for the benefits in size and speed, but aren't looking to break the bank, take a look at seagate Hybrid drives:

    +1 for no regrets.

I'm on my 3rd laptop with this setup since 2009. I love it. Samsung SSD for progs/OS, WD HDD for all music. I will never miss always having to tote around the external HDD and always seeming to forget the USB cable when I really needed it.

My only suggestion would be buy once, cry once. Save your pennies and get the good SSD and HDD (these are so cheap now anyways). This is just my opinion of course...
