Fucking tapatalk anyhow been djing digital for oh 7+ years now and getting kinda tired of it everything feels easy when mixing so on so forth feel my ears have digressed due to the abundance of information provide by traktor/serato... So picking up a cdj350/djm350 white setup new for way below retail... Don't think I've been this excited then when I went to controllers 7 years ago... Only this time I won't ditch the old gear as long as space/wife permits.

Maybe it's a waste of 900$ or maybe it'll get me more evolved I miss just having a setup in the bedroom with no laptop and only needing RCA's and power mind ya USB sticks are required but I think I'll survive. Anyone else gone back to no laptop djing and if so did it make your style better or did it suffer?

Maybe it'll encourage me to go back to vinyl but I've been so on the fence for past year... So settled on a small cdj setup

Pretty much what I learnt on. Except I had a mixer similar to this. Pussies. :P

Whatever works for you man. I almost always want to go back to just turntables or CDJ's and a mixer because of the ease of setup. It's also a bit more similar to what you encounter in a club. That said, I can never go back. For me personally, I don't want to spend the excessive money on vinyl. As for CD's/USB options, I can't go that way, as the organization and memorization of tracks doesn't work for me. IE - if I'm playing out, I can't remember what I've played, or what's what. That's where Traktor helped me in the digital/MP3 world. It keeps track of what's been played for me, and I can organize my collections a bit better by keywords, etc.
The biggest issue though, is that the software has enabled me to play in a style that just isn't possible through vinyl. I could probably do it via CDJ's/USB, but again, the organization issue comes into play.
It's all about having fun, and doing what works for you.

There is certainly a lot to be said for it. Despite having my two 2900s & two Vestax TTs setup with Traktor/Engine downstairs in the lounge, I still keep my two 1210s and basic SK6 mixer upstairs setup on the top of two bookcases filled with old school Trance/house/hardhouse/hardcore/d&b vinyl.

It's a lot of fun to just stick a few records and have a mix on a minimal setup with no screens/laptops. I swap bits and pieces between the two setups quite a bit depending what I'm doing but it's great always having a spare pair of TTs & a 2 channel mixer setup for straight up vinyl mixing!

With regard to the expense of buying vinyl, I generally only buy individual records now & again (on Discogs) if there is something specific I badly want, normally I just keep my eye on the local classifieds and buy job-lots as and when they come up for sale. It can be remarkably cheap this way. I recently picked up 200 d&b vinyl including around 70 white-lables for £75 (so less than 40p a record) which is even cheaper than digital!

I've acquired most of mine in this manner (apart from a small collection brought new from record stores back in the day!), and rarely get duplicates. Obviously this only really works for older stuff, but it suits me fine to have my 'new' music all in digital format and all my older stuff on vinyl.

Really wish I had the space and other requirements for some TT's but purchased some CDJs a few months ago and have been very happy just pressing a few power buttons and going in to a mix. Sometimes I wish for the options of using a computer (4 decks and/or remix deck) but overall don't think the technology impresses anyone else but me.
