Yeah I think you're right, it will sell. I think it will 'appear' to have sold a lot more than it really has though. I can't back that up with anything other than as you say, the big vinyl revival has never and will never happen. It will just be reported so much in the music press (along with PR about the new TT) it will 'appear' to be on every kids Xmas list and used by every name DJ.

As soon as the first QBert video lands the 'credibility' of the TT will be fixed for ever. Then they just need to get one of these hip young barn dance DJ's like that Seth Troxler guy who seems to be the oracle for 20odd year olds these days and they will have the 'cool hip' category covered. (i dont actually know if Troxler uses vinyl/timecode, he's just a buzzword I keep hearing around here).

On price, I guess that's still Pioneer's prerogative to charge whatever they deem worthy even if they are knocking them out at under Super OEM price which I think they will. Pio have the resources to do all these things cheaper than say Reloop (again, my assumption).

I guess under cutting the average 1210 price will seem to 'under value' a Pioneer product which they would never do.

Pioneer are the Stella Artois of the music world: "Reassuringly Expensive" - obviously only reassuring if you buy into what they make as the best on the market.

I'm looking forward to seeing the reaction to these tables more than anything. In recent the years (particularly since their discontinuation) the fawning over Technics turntables has reached pass-me-the-sick-bucket, cringe worthy levels. It's almost as if they have somehow become even better now that they are no longer in production.

Suggestion of alternative turntables is often met with derision and disbelief- any advances newer models have made being derided as pointless extravagances, one of the traditional barometers of turntable quality and Technics hallmarks, 'high torque', now gets used as a negative aspect once the 1200s levels are exceeded.

With any other manufacturer I could see it largely falling by the wayside, lost in the ever spiraling avalanche of Technics fandom. Yet as it is Pioneer I can genuinely see it dividing opinion- with many seeing it as the equivalent of Pioneer branded sliced bread (even if it is just another excellent Super OEM with the Pio name down the side for a couple hundred extra ), and the other group of staunch die-hard Technics warriors lauding it as yet another 'knock-off' that doesn't warrant consideration because it wasn't manufactured 30 years ago by Panasonic.

The comments on the photo in the facebook link posted above provide a tantalizing snapshot of the storm that is to come, and as someone with zero brand-loyalty (a DJ equipment whore if you will) frankly I can't wait!

I'm pretty sure someone posted a better picture and tagged it #lookslikemk2, but it's been deleted.

    There we go.

One thing I meant to mention yesterday was that I hoped it would come with a flat dust cover, decksaver style, and it does. So controllers can be put on top when it's not in use.

    Smart move.
