Default RCA to Phono plug question

Had a gig last night that was a bust. The only way to connect is via a phono port. I got an RCA to male headphone cable and put the big phono adapter on and plugged in. The sound wasnt right it. How can i fix this. I shut down, restarted and tweaked the cables a little with no luck.

    Thanks

If this is REALLY an input for a phono-graph...there is nothing you can do. That input is designed to take the input from a turntable.

You need to get an input that will take a "line" level signal.
