So, iOS has audiobus, and the ability to connect midi devices through a camera connection kit. Is there any sort of alternative for Android?

Not really. You can do some basic stuff with an OTG cable, like MIDI IN/OUT. It's device dependent, so for example the Nexus 4 doesn't support it, but the Nexus 7 does. There are apps like RD4 (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ikrosonic.RD3X) that support MIDI clock and attaching small controllers. There's an app called Caustic 3 (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ftware.caustic) that looks pretty powerful for production. You can also get FL Studio (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....imageline.FLM).
Generally, I'd say Android is at least a couple of years behind iOS for audio. It's just not a priority for Google, I'm afraid. I wish it weren't the case, though. You can't even use an audio interface with Android!

I agree with happydan.
Furthermore, as far as stability goes, Android just isn't up to par with iOS. I've used some music production apps on the Android and they were slow/buggy... iOS definitely takes the cake in this area.

Anecdotally, I found apps crashed way more on my old iPad than they do on my Nexus 7.

Dang, I would have never known!
Granted I tested this out when the Droid Razr was popular (which was the phone I used).

Yeah, the articles do say that 2.3.x (the version I think the Razr had) is the least reliable. Reality is that it's pretty much irrelevant, as Audio apps are mostly DOA on Android. although, I've just bought These to try out MIDI syncing RD4 on my Nexus 7 to Traktor...

One problem is that the Nexus 7 doesn't have the volume output compared to other sources. I've got a headphone amp to counter that, though.
