Default Tips on creating / Making a website for Free?

Hey, wondering if any one on here may be able to give some advice on the best way to go about setting up a website to promote myself as as DJ? / Pornstar JK

I'm no web designer, so an easy to use web design software would be ideal.

Ideally what I want from the site:

Easy to edit, upload pics, vid's & music.

Professional layout, be able to add a custom banner/logo.

So far I've been looking into free host and host domain names

The 2 I've found which suit my needs quite well so far are:

weebly.com for host/Stupidly easy but limited online design/unlimited bandwidth/add youtube vids - FREE (small weebly link at bottom of page).

Weebly really is pretty good for what it is (Free), but there are design limitations.

    DOT.TK 'Free!!' domain name

Any one got any recommendations they'd like to share?

    Thanks in advance

    Cutta

Why not just go with a well designed blogger, a free soundcloud account and a youtube account? Everything can be linked and embedded easily and with a little work can look very professional.

Mix cloud is very good too. Pretty sure its made by the same people that did sound cloud and in many ways is better than sound cloud.

Alot of professionals use word press as their web page too. Its a more professional version of blogspot or whatever. I know alot of graphic designers who use it to upload work, videos or whatever. Sounds like you need pretty much the same thing they need. You can download free blog templates to make your blog more personal as well.

And it's very easy to whip up a banner in photoshop or whatever for your blog/webspace.

I know you want free, but if you had a friend who knows web design you can buy domains veeeeeeery cheap; like £20 for 2 years, including domain rental and server space.

Google has a website for making websites called google sites, it allows you to have a home page, embed all sorts of stuff, picasa albums, etc. I think you can customize a lot of the backgrounds and everything too. It's worth checking out.

My suggestion would be to make a nice design in photoshop, slice it and then export it to Dreamweaver. Its really the easiest method and you can customize it just the way you want instead of choosing from a specific template.

Here are two great tutorials for this

I'd recommend wordpress too, really easy to use...and free!
Here's a simple one I did a few months ago, took me only about 10 minutes to understand how it works. http://oldskooltapes.wordpress.com/

(All links are now dead, was only to get an idea of how to use wordpress for a future site)

A good way now is as suggested, take full advantage of a good myspace, wordpress, youtube, soundcloud etc etc - then if you really want, make a simple yet well designed single page site to collect all of your links. No need to have a full on website nowadays, when there's so many good free networking sites around

(btw, i'm currently working on this idea.. but havnt got around to making the single page site yet - all my linked web-spaces are below though...)

Another vote for Wordpress from me.

It's easily updatable with no knowledge or web programming or HTML and can be totally customised as mentioned by others e.g. youtube vids, galleries, soundcloud etc

Here is something I made for my girlfriend to start promoting her DJing more using Wordpress and a cheap template and that only took a couple of hours to install/customise.

Total cost about £20 or less for the year.
