if u are using iTunes to create your playlists and them import to Traktor
then you already are essentially creating a backup

What i do is create a playlist in iTunes
then i rightclick the playlist name and EXPORT
i save it as an xml file somewhere OUTSIDE of any Traktor folder (there is your backup)

    Then i open traktor
    go into the browser tree
    find iTunes
    load those lists
then click ANYONE of those lists under itunes (As long as you did NOT delete the playlist from itunes, it will always be there)
then rightclick the list i want to import to a traktor PLAYLIST (rightclick, import as playlist)

then yuoll have to scroll up and find it in your traktor tree under its playlists (ABOVE iTUNES)

Now the next time you close Traktor its going to save that TRAKTOR playlist
BAM!! Now you have two of them. One created and saved OUTSIDE of traktor folders. These remain your originals.
Traktor also save the imported playlist it ITS OWN folders for playlists

He says pretty clearly he doesn't want to use iTunes. I completely understand.

You can back up Playlists by either saving them individually (Right click the playlist, export to nml)
    or
Backup your Traktor data (Setting -> Export -> Playlists)

Thats my methods, I tend to make backups of playlists etc every few weeks.
