This thread has made my night. thanks guys!!!!
House came out of Disco. It had a lot of soul, hell there use to be bands that played House live. I think you either get Voodoo Ray or you don't. Big difference from today's pop dance music which is like what The Expendables are to cinema.
Vocal house is the only way to go....
If im playing at a black club I play something like this. (my friend from Brooklyn does the vocals)
If im playing at like a white tech house/deep house club I would play something like this. (again very haunting vocals, and all those notes are like weird detuned 5ths and stuff, this song is pretty mental.
and finally if I play at a gay club i'll play something like this...or hell even some old Armand van Helden stuff.
Lovin' this thread. Very insightful.
For me, DJing is all about using your craft to broaden the horizons of listeners. Hell, I know a chick who thanks me on a weekly basis for introducing her to the house music, because up until that point she had no interest in any kind of music whatsoever.
Doesn't get any better than that, folks.
Best validation ever.Hell, I know a chick who thanks me on a weekly basis for introducing her to the house music, because up until that point she had no interest in any kind of music whatsoever.

Unfortunately many people are just sheep, if they don't know it they don't like it and theres no changing that attitute unless you put them in a room with 1000 other people who do like it and then suddenly their tune changes
I'm sure we have all had weird nights that were invaded spontaneously by a hoard of sheep for apparently no reason where you can literally never please anyone in the room *shiver* nightmarish gigs from the twilight zone.
Then you find out post gig that there was a radio promotion on a commercial station or the flyer girls were standing outside the "busiest" bars/clubs in the city and it all becomes clear.
Chuck Norris knows where you livelike what The Expendables are to cinema.
