Default M-Audio FireWire AudiophileFirewire Audio/MIDI Interface

    Hey Guys,

Can anyone tell me if this is a good interface?

    M-Audio FireWire Audiophile 4-in/6-out Firewire Audio/MIDI Interface

I'm able to purchase it cheap off a friend, and I'm not sure of the quality etc.
*Note I'm just a beginner and don't need "the best"

    Cheers

It has a 6 pin firewire connection, and I have a new macbook pro which to my understanding is Firewire 800 (9pins)

Does this mean it'll work if I just get a converter?

It is backwards compatible to the slower rates and 6-circuit alpha connectors of FireWire 400. However, while the IEEE 1394a and IEEE 1394b standards are compatible, FireWire 800's connector, referred to as a beta connector, is different from FireWire 400's alpha connectors, making legacy cables incompatible. A bilingual cable allows the connection of older devices to the newer port. In 2003, Apple was the first to introduce commercial products with the new connector.

I used it for years and now I have it as a backup card, its sound quality and build quality are great. If the price is good I would go for it.
