    Default Kick samples > synths?

Do you lot tend to use: layered samples, a synth, or a mixture of both?

I've come across a couple of synths geared towards kicks that seem to produce a great sound... it's really tempting to just use them and not bother with real samples at all... what do you think?

I tried messing with the Kick plugin that Nicky Romero did... I just wasted too much time trying to perfect what I thought was a good kick when I could have just used my folder of samples that I know are good and to my liking. I layer kicks as well. I just get better results this way. It's all personal preference though.

Yeah that's the one I've been mostly playing with.. must admit I really like it. At a guess how many kick samples do you have? I think I'm working with a tiny amount and it's making other options look good...

I usually like crafting my sounds from scratch. I have a bunch of kick samples but I think it's best to stick with a few. It just makes it harder to find the one I used if something happens to my source files. I wish I didn't have all of them. But it's kind of too late. I like Nicky Romero's kick plugin. I've tried a lot of kickdrum synth plugins and found most of them sound either too hollow or flat.

Cheers mate! Will have a look at this and your other sound packs this weekend. Haven't had 5 mins to get in front of Ableton yet...
